"Sculpture Of A Half-naked Woman "
Fernand Débonnaires Ca 1935 Student of the Brussels Academy. The artist may well give his figures the most varied attitudes, he always subordinates his effects to the calm order of the masses and the balance of the forms. Débonnaires offers us nudes, whose forms are rounded without softness and whose structure does not contain any systematic deformation. The heads of his statues are very characteristic: rounded and slightly flattened face, wide nose, eyes with strongly accentuated eyelids, lips that sketch an indefinable smile. We find ourselves here in front of human beings, who are no longer affected by the incidents of existence. Beings whose mask is imbued with the serenity of an idol and who contemplate us with calm and gentleness. Most of Fernand Débonnaires' works have a monumental character. Almost all of them were carved directly in stone or cement. Even the plaster heads and terracotta figurines were reworked by the sculptor's chisel after casting or firing. This technique contributes to giving his sculptures the clarity and purity that are the major qualities of Fernand Débonnaires' art.
This sculpture was made in cement.
