"A Lalique Crystal Ganymede Champagne Cooler Ice Bucket"
This French crystal champagne cooler/ice bucket was designed in the mid-1950s by Marc Lalique. The design is titled Ganymede after the mythological youth kidnapped by Zeus who eventually went on to serve as his cupbearer. The exterior of the ice bucket features a pair of moulded satin-finished dancing nudes executed in deep relief which are set against a background of moulded grape leaves. The ice bucket itself has a traditional form with a flared body finished with two thick handles. The ice bucket stands 9" tall and is 7.5" across the mouth. It is 9.5" across as measured from the outside edges of the handles. The foot is 6" in diameter and is signed "Lalique France" in diamond point script. The champagne cooler/ice bucket is quite substantial and weighs in at 16lbs 3oz. This Lalique Ganymede ice bucket is a perfect complement to a formal dining room or bar. An elegant and useful piece.
