Marcel von Syben was born in Roermond and showed an interest in art from an early age. Initially, Marcel wanted to become a sculptor and even had the opportunity to meet the famous master Auguste Rodin when he was working on a group of sculptures for the Brussels Stock Exchange.
Later, Marcel turned to painting. His artistic style was distinguished by a pursuit of perfection and great attention to detail. Marcel's works are often characterized by a deep plastic impact, reflecting his previous attachment to sculpture. He mainly used earthy tones, such as ocher and shades of gray, sometimes adding blue shadows to soften the volumes. When working with pastels, he achieved better results.
In 1932, Marcel moved to Eindhoven, where he continued his creative activity. His works were sometimes purchased by local patrons and artists. Later, he settled in Helmond, where he lived and worked until March 1961.
