Ramiro Arrue : “nude Studies”

Ramiro Arrue (1892-1971): “Studies of Nudes”, pair of pencil drawings 31 X 23 cm, mounted by a neutral pH mat in natural oak frames 42 X 32 cm. Two other studies on the back less accomplished. Monogrammed, they bear the red stamp of the studio, from the same drawing pad, they are numbered 315 and 316. Characteristic of the second decade of the 20th century, they relate to the series that Ramiro made to, in collaboration with his brother Ricardo, create enamels on copper. The great Basque Master, although originally from Bilbao, after a few years studying in Paris where he frequented the artistic intelligentsia of the time, Picasso, Paco Durio, Zuloaga and especially his friends Bourdelle and Modigliani, quickly returned to Saint-Jean de Luz where he rediscovered the Basque soul that he translated into picturesque scenes of Festivals, field work or pelota games and capturing the typical and changing light in many landscapes… He also illustrated the works of Loti and Francis Jammes, among others.
