Small Alcove Chandelier, Late Louis XVI Period, Directoire

This charming little three-light chandelier consists of three acanthus leaf light arms emerging from a "cul de lampe" base, the body is made of porcelain. We will recognize floral motifs from the Clignancourt factory.
At this pivotal period at the end of the 18th century, the Louis XVI style remained predominant over the Directoire style. The chiseling decoration of the best finesse and quality already presages the typical guillochés of the Empire.
It is supported by a diamond-shaped chain ending with a beautiful fleuron also in the shape of an acanthus leaf. These "miniature" light fixtures were used in small spaces (alcoves, cabinets), having been little used since the 19th century, which saw the disappearance of these small living spaces, they were thrown away or lost, so it is a particularly unusual model. Condition: excellent condition. A chip glued back to the top of the porcelain bulb, invisible in situ.
