PITCHER with pewter shoulder, plinth foot, straight heel cup and molded S-shaped thumb with rampant tongue.
Control mark: crowned lily / CG / 17(--) / PARIS.
Mark of Louis 1st PELLETIER received master in 1720, incompletely struck.
Height: 19.1 cm. PARIS, Circa 1730.
In good condition, a slight depression of the belly and a crack at the junction of the lid and the tongue are however noted and visible in the photographs.
Beautiful slightly dark patina, very uniform.
Let us recall in passing that these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime. The capacity of those used in public places, inns, drinking establishments, etc., had to be checked periodically by the royal or ecclesiastical authority to ensure "good measure" for the consumer.
