China, late Kangxi period (1661-1722) to early Yongzheng period (1725-1735), c. 1720-1725.
Decorated in the central roundel with figures in a garden, the border with Rococo-influenced floral decoration, brown-edged rim. The vibrant and lively polychrome enamels used on this plate are green, blue, yellow, aubergine, black outlines, iron red and gilt.
As a type of export ware, famille verte largely disappeared after c. 1725, superseded by the (at that time) more fashionable famille rose. The overglaze blue enamels used on this plate were supposedly developed by the Chinese porcelain industry around 1685-90.
