Pol Chambost. "for sale" 1960 "bamboo" orangeade set in beige enameled earthenware, trompe l'oeil imitating the plant, including a large pitcher and eight cylindrical glasses. Each piece is signed on the back of the base. Dimensions pitcher 31 cm glass 18.5 cm: bibliography: "pol chambost sculptor-ceramist 1906-1983", somogy éditions d'art, paris, 2006, p. 145. Pol chambost was born in 1906 in saint-etienne. He trained at the school of applied arts in industry in paris but also took evening classes at the school of decorative arts. At the age of 26, he turned to ceramics and began culinary and decorative production. He was the first in france to use a large capacity electric oven. In 1942, he was awarded the gold medal at the Salon des Artistes, applied arts section. At that time, his workshop in Ivry sur Seine had 5 employees. Production was divided between decorative earthenware and utilitarian earthenware. He was already working with department stores such as Le Bon Marché, Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. From 1944, he collaborated with many ceramists such as Pierre Fouquet, Paul Pouchol, Georges Jouve, Louise-Edmée Chevallier and Pierre Roulot in 1949. He was the one who supplied advertising ashtrays to the major brands of the time: Simca, Cinzano, Dubonnet, Dop-L'Oréal, etc. From 1948, he participated in the Salon des Arts Ménagers for several years. The 1950s were to be synonymous with success! His workshop expanded, his clientele became international, he participated in many trade fairs including the 1st trade fair for art workshops which would later become the home and objects fair. His production flourished and he registered many models and techniques because Pol Chambost was an artist but also an outstanding technician.
