Annotation on the back.
The name of Robert Gauthier is mentioned on the back of the work by its owner, but no signature is affixed. However, this man seems for the moment unknown in the Périgord landscape, and even more broadly, confused by many namesakes.
Nevertheless, this work is not that of a painter without knowledge. He prepares his panels, makes an underlying drawing, and paints with a real knowledge of vanishing points, perspectives and colors. Our work is particularly interesting because of its unfinished appearance, which certainly justifies the absence of a signature. The right of the composition remained in the draft state reveals the graphite of the drawing, and reveals in a way the skeleton of the painting.
