Jules Girardet - Romantic Scene Around 1880

JULES GIRARDET ( April 10, 1856 - January 25, 1938 )

This romantic scene is the culmination of an era. The courtier slips a few words aside, trying to delicately take the hand of this beautiful young woman. The low masses also take place in the background, in front of the imposing family home. The group's poetic ensemble and complicity emerge from Jules Girardet's painting. 

Born into a family of painters, Jules and his brothers Eugène and Léon were renowned painters.
With a personal, innovative style, his paintings are visually realistic, allowing the viewer to feel the atmosphere of the scene.

He regularly exhibited his work at the Paris art shows, winning an award in 1881 and the silver medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition.

Museums in Morlaix, Cholet, Quimper and Saint-Denis hold some of his works.
