"Mazarin Desk In Walnut And Maple"
Exceptional Mazarin desk in burr walnut, with maple inlays, with fillets forming polylobed frames adorning the front, sides and top. The interior band of the top includes a large central drawer, under which is a small door, all framed by three smaller side drawers. The undulating front is divided into three bands framed at the corners by inlaid wood leaf volutes. Eight threaded wooden obelisk legs are connected by crossed crosspieces. The entire structure is inlaid with floral motifs in maple wood.
History: after the glorious Italian campaigns and many other victories, Napoleon I, to reward his exploits and loyalty, appointed General of Cavalry Mura, King of Naples. This high-ranking figure and his court had many French pieces of furniture made in Italy. This Mazarin is a flamboyant example of furniture from the early 19th century, a happy blend.
