a very spectacular sculpted alabaster group, according to the metamorphoses it takes up the theme of the loves of Eros and Psyche.

Namely that here Eros is none other than love or Cupid the son of the goddess Aphrodite.
he falls after disobeying his mother very much in love with Psyche, the daughter of a king reputed to be of immense beauty and envied by Aphrodite herself.
every night he visits her asking her never to want to see him.

mother Aphrodite could not bear this nascent love as she jealous Psyche. Psyche falls madly in love with her mysterious lover who visits her every night and escapes before dawn after covering her with kisses, sweet words and caresses. one day awakened by the jealousy of her sisters Psyche lights an oil lamp and sees her lover in the form of a wonderful young man! in wanting to escape he burns himself with Psyche's lamp. he leaves having been burned and Psyche sinks into despair. it is only after a series of terrible trials submitted to the young woman by her mother-in-law that the young woman will succeed in reconquering the love of Eros to whom she will be married later on Olympus and where she will become a goddess with butterfly wings. our alabaster group is of great expressive force and shows all the love that Eros feels for Psyche.
