Object description :

"Parisian Mortar By Nicolas Chapelle, Circa 1660, For Lord Of Roncourt"
Here is superb bronze mortar with a dark patina, almost in new condition, superb bronze casting, inscription ou collar Jean Baptiste de Roncourt, (1635-†1684) - He married Christine Joly (1635-†1661), they still rest in cemetery of this hamlet, between Contrexéville and Vittel.
It is one unsigned work by renowned bronze founder Nicolas Chapelle, comparable to his signed mortars reproduced in the beautiful book "Mortiers Français" under direction of Bertrand Bergbauer. (a long and detailed article on Nicolas Chapelle and follower, thanks to the associated authors)
The use of large medals, Louis XIII young, Marguerite d'Etampes, clearly legible, and plaques depicting muses are classic of this artist founder. Excellent condition, mortar has not been used much, little wear, and above all, a rendering of moldings of which one rarely sees this quality. Dimensions: 14cm x 10 cm, weight: 2.2kg
his item is for immediate purchase, payable by credit card or paypal.
