After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Orléans, he attended the Ateliers libres de l’Académie de la grande Chaumière in Paris from 1957 to 1959.
First a painter, he quickly became interested in tapestry. He collaborated with the TABARD workshops in Aubusson, then continued his training in Bayeux. He illustrated numerous books before finally devoting himself to his true passion, monumental sculpture. Many galleries have dedicated solo exhibitions to him:
1959 La Cimaise
1963 Galeries de la Transposition
1966 Centre Péguy
1973 Ecole des Beaux Arts d’Orléans
1992 and 1996 Galerie Sculptures
Also working for international commissions, Michel BERARD systematically achieves great success and press tributes during his exhibitions in Montreal (1969), Stockholm (1975), Düsseldorf (1973) or Madrid (1992). Public commissions are numerous and it is possible to discover his works at La Maison de la Culture d’Orléans, in the Saint Jean de Braye housing estate, but especially in Saint Quentin en Yvelines with the majestic 5-meter aluminum sculpture or near the ring road at Porte de la Chapelle with his famous COLONNE 1986 in concrete 10 meters high.
