"Rare Pair Of Reliquary Arms - 18th Century"
Our two reliquary arms in an elegant gesture of blessing, are made of wood, polychromed and largely gilded. The symmetry of this pair suggests that our reliquaries sat on either side of an altar. Originally, they held the relics of two Martyrs, Saint Vitalis and Saint Maurice.
Saint Vital of Ravenna was buried alive for refusing to renounce his Faith during the first century.
Saint Maurice, a Roman soldier, was martyred in 287 in Agaune. Dimensions of 36 cm by 13 long and 11.5 cm deep.
Good condition - tiny losses to the gilding.
