Biography:
Fernand LAVAL 1886 / 1966
Fernand Laval arrived in Paris in 1912 where he became friends with Maurice Utrillo and traveled the streets of Montmartre with his easel. In 1913 he married Rachel Cohenet and in 1920 he made his first appearance at the Salon d'Automne where he presented a painting titled ''De Montmartre aux Halles''. He also worked abroad, notably in the Netherlands, painting many windmills in the years 1927-28 and he went to Belgium, where he painted the port of Antwerp. In homage to Renoir in 1963 he painted RENOIR's house ''la Collette'' in Cagnes-sur-Mer. His favorite subjects will always remain the heart of Paris, Montmartre, including the Sacré-Cœur, the suburbs of Paris, the old fortifications and the Canal St Martin.
His last works are in dark tones of browns, earths and blacks.
