Icon Of The Intercession, Moscow School Circa 1800 / Deisis / Christ / Orthodox Russia

Superb and luminous Russian icon of the intercession representing in the center Christ in glory, surrounded by the Virgin, Saint John the Baptist, the archangels Michael and Gabriel as well as many saints.
This work dates from the beginning of the 19th century (around 1800/1820) and, given its finesse and style, can be attributed to the prestigious Moscow school of Moscow icon painting.
This type of composition is called "Deisis" -- meaning in Greek Intercession or prayer. Mary, Saint John and the other saints, in prayer and with bowed heads, implore Christ to save humanity.
The icon is painted in tempera on a wood panel with a splendid gilding.
Very good original condition. Minor wear from time.
