Object description :

"Rustic And Primitive - Monoxyl Butter Tape With Initials - Folk Art - Auvergne"
Early 19th Century France - Auvergne This butter tap, also known as a "butter squeezer palette" or "butter spatula", is a superb example of rustic folk art from the Auvergne. Made in the early 19th century, it is distinguished by its primitive character, reflecting the simplicity and authenticity of the rural crafts of the time. Carved from a single piece of wood (monoxyl), this butter tap embodies an authentic rusticity. Its only decoration is the inlay of the initials "FC" on the back, marking a personal connection with its original owner. The crude design and lack of sophisticated ornamentation recall the traditional objects of ancient cultures, where the refined form serves above all the function. This simplicity gives the object a remarkable visual and symbolic power, underlining its profoundly primitive character. The butter tap is a large flat or rectangular spoon, with grooves on one side for pressing the butter and extracting the buttermilk. By "tapping the butter", women made the water and buttermilk bead on the surface, a process that gave the butter a silky texture and an incomparable taste. The smooth side of the tap was also used to shape the butter balls or to pack them into a mold. The unrefined appearance of this butter tap gives it an undeniable authenticity. This object, both simple and full of tradition, will find its place perfectly in a collection dedicated to ethnography, tribal arts, or folk art, or as a decorative piece in a characterful home. Please note: Traces of pitting in the wood, fully treated. Dimensions: Height: 35 cm ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY!
