Object description :

"Marg Bermond (1911-1991), Bouquet Of Roses, Oil On Canvas Signed, Framed"
"Marg Bermond (1911-1991), Bouquet of Roses, Oil on Canvas Signed, Framed" Marguerite BREMOND is a French artist who studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nîmes before becoming a student of Édouard Georges Mac-Avoy at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, then joining the Académie Julian. She worked in 1945 and 1946 in the illustration of popular literature. Her essentially studio painting does not, however, exclude a few vacations that the dates affixed to certain works allow us to put in chronology: Provence in 1954, Holland in 1955, Normandy (Étretat) and Andalusia in 1963. She will paint landscapes, but also many very colorful bouquets like the roses in our painting. It was from 1970 that her palette became brighter, under the influence, it is said, on the one hand, of her more in-depth work in watercolour, but also, it is said, because this "daughter of Arles", drawn to the south by temperament, expressed herself in numerous trips which meant that she now favoured landscape painting: Marguerite Bermond visited and painted Provence, Italy, Greece; Spain and Morocco. Marguerite Bermond died suddenly in February 1991, a few days before the sale of her studio by the auctioneer Claude Robert at the Hôtel Drouot, an event on which she was working. The Taylor Foundation paid tribute to her by creating a "Marguerite Bermond Prize" Solo exhibitions Galerie de l'Institut, Rue de Seine, Paris, 1954.
