Object description :

"Persian Khandjar Early 19th Century, Beautiful Blade, Chiseled Steel Mount"
This is a khandjar, which comes from Persia and dates from the very beginning of the 19th century, or even the end of the 18th century. This is a real weapon, and not a "panoply" weapon like the second half of the 19th century produced many. It is also not a souvenir from a souk for travelers in search of exoticism.
BLADE: This is a beautiful forge work. After an engraved part, the blade takes a "gull wing" section, with 2 hollow sides on each side, very sharp, to end at the point with a reinforced part in order to pierce the chainmail.
It is possible that this blade has a structure called "damascus steel", but this internal structure would require to be revealed by a specialized treatment.
On the part near the handle, chiseled decoration of floral motifs and central medallion in which a double line of silver in "koft gari" surrounds a motif of triple golden plant which symbolizes the Divine word.
Length of the blade = 28.5 cm, width near the handle = 5.1 cm, thickness near the handle = 4.8 mm, thickness at the tip = 8.3 mm
HILT : It is made of wood covered with steel, and has a beautiful chiseled decoration of floral motifs. The handle is decorated on its terminal part with a rabbit, which in Islam symbolizes fertility. The medallions decorated with a golden flower and remains of silver are worn by time and probably by a long habit of the owner of holding his hand on the handle of his khandjar ...
SCABBARD: It is made of steel chiseled with a rich floral decoration, and a representation of birds. Birds, according to the Koran (27/16-17-22) would have served as messengers to certain prophets, including King Solomon.
The medallions which presented silver decorations in "koft gari" were worn by the prolonged wearing of the weapon in a belt. The scabbard ends with a metal point in the shape of a double cone.
In conclusion, it is a beautiful authentic weapon, which was probably worn for a long time. It is in its discovery patina which gives it a beautiful appearance.
