Exceptional Baccarat crystal gasifier lamp circa 1840 Bronze frame Beveled with 6 sides on the body and base, the quality of the cut and the crystal is exceptional! Extremely rare, early piece, equipped with a very rare gasifier system patented by Robert's establishments in Paris. Appearing at the end of the 1830s, these lamps operate with new fuels. Robert's Gasifier Lamp can be considered for its structure as a precursor to gasoline vapor lamps. It operated with a mixture of alcohol and turpentine. This mixture evaporated and escaped through perforations giving small flames. Note a tiny chip under the base. Height 42 cm Base diameter 14.5 cm 2.2 kg
