"Pair Of Art Nouveau Vases Paul Daum-val-circa 1920"
Exceptional pair of vases in blown marbled glass and wrought iron mount signed VAL, in exceptional condition! This pair is the result of the alliance of marbled glassware (at the time we say "glass paste") in a wrought iron mount from the E.VAL & Cie establishments. The glassware is the work of Paul Daum, created in the workshops of the Belle Etoile in Croismare, built to manufacture and market the Daum sub-brands Lorrain, Mado, Maud, Lysiès… This superb set – which like most has lost its Lorrain signature in ink – is very virtuoso with this hammered mount with hanging arabesques in the shape of water drops, without any defect, while this type of piece is so often damaged (90% of these works are shocked, chipped, cracked… when they have not lost their mount). Today, Paul Daum is finally recognized as a great master of Art Deco glass, don't miss one of his best preserved works! E. VAL & Cie (1890-1940) former EFFLER house was located from 218 to 220 faubourg saint Martin in Paris. After acquiring the EFFLER house in 1890 (specializing in goldsmithing and the assembly of crystals on pieces with silver-plated metal mounts), E. VAL & Cie had a doorstep to sell its products and an art gallery to exhibit various objects in earthenware, glassware and porcelain. It was located at 218 & 220 faubourg St Martin in Paris. It will offer colored vases made in Bohemia with Art Nouveau style mounts. It will then supply itself from LEGRAS, the SAINT DENIS and PANTIN glassworks combined by affixing the VAL signature (in enamel or engraved). It will be DAUM's turn via the Verrerie d'ART LORRAIN in Croismare for exclusive models. The D'ARGYL brand will be registered by this company in 1928. The pieces will be manufactured by the Verrerie d'ART LORRAIN/Verrerie de la BELLE ETOILE still in Croismare which will be under the responsibility of Paul DAUM. The D'ARGYL signature is also used for artistic objects distributed by E. VAL & Cie until 1940. Thus the VAL signature will be used until 1914 by the company E. VAL & Cie for its Art Nouveau pieces and used by the Verrerie d'ART LORRAIN/Verrerie de la BELLE ETOILE between 1926 and 1934 for Art Deco productions.
