Object description :

"Daisy Makeig-jones Fairyland Dragon Lantern Bowl, Wedgwood, Circa 1915-1920"
This exquisite Fairyland Dragon lantern bowl, created by Daisy Makeig-Jones for Wedgwood between 1915 and 1920, is a stunning example of early 20th-century ceramic artistry. The piece bears Wedgwood’s gold stamp and the pattern number Z4829, confirming its authenticity and rarity. The bowl’s unique shape is rarely seen, making it particularly appealing to collectors of Daisy Makeig-Jones’s work. The combination of a lustrous finish and skilful gilding exemplifies Daisy Makeig-Jones’ innovative technique and artistic vision. Susanna Margaretta “Daisy” Makeig-Jones was an influential pottery designer for Wedgwood, best known for her Fairyland Lustre series, which appeared shortly after she became a full-time designer in 1914. She masterfully combined underglaze variegation, overglaze grain, and iridescence with intricate gold patterns, creating a completely new and captivating style in stoneware. The first ten lustre series, including this bowl (pattern Z4829), exemplify Daisy’s innovative use of color and design. These early pieces, produced between 1914 and 1929, have become highly collectible due to their unique artistic qualities and limited production. Daisy’s work, characterized by her vivid imagination and technical skill, is increasingly sought after, making her pieces not only artistic treasures but also attractive investments.
Dimensions: Top diameter 13.7 cm, bottom diameter 9.2 cm, diameter at widest part 15.6 cm, height 7.5 cm, weight 386 grams.
Condition: The bowl is in excellent antique condition with no visible chips, cracks or repairs. The luster and gilding remain bright.
