Bullfight in a Spanish Town Square, circa 1826 Dedication to FRANCISCO GOYA (1746-1828) - signed A large early 19th century Spanish bullfight scene in a town square, oil on canvas. A bullfight scene of excellent quality and early importance depicting a matador lying mutilated on the ground in a provincial bullring while the peon and matadors attempt to subdue the bull as a crowd looks on helplessly. Painted in the distantly loose impressionist style of Goya's series of bullfighting paintings in the 1820s and with the remains of his signature on the original stretcher lower right verso. Presented in a later gilt frame. Requires further research. Various numbers and private collection labels on the reverse.
