James Vibert (1872-1942) was a sculptor trained at the Ecole des Arts Industriels in Geneva, where he met Ferdinand Hodler, who introduced him to Symbolism. A close friend of Rodo, he moved to Paris in 1892 and joined Rodin's studio.
He worked with many prestigious designers, including Théodore Deck, Clément Massier and Adrien Dalpayrat.
Our candlestick is the fruit of a collaboration with the Emile Muller company, taken over by Emile Muller's son, Louis Muller, on his father's death in 1889. Louis Muller collaborated with numerous artists, including Grasset, Toulouse-Lautrec, Frémiet and Wolfers, and it was under his direction that the company won the Grand Prix at the 1900 Universal Exhibition.
