Smith & Wesson revolver, First Model, DA, 1881 in nickel-plated finish, 19th century. Nickel-plated steel frame and barrel with walnut butt plates fixed by a central through-screw. 6-inch round barrel with upper band bearing the Smith & Wesson marking and certainly the remainder of the inscription erased by the touch of the finger on the band. Barrel with half-moon nickel silver sight, recessed and pinned. Round barrel with grooves in good condition and with a band tilting forward on a hinge at the bottom of the lower face of the frame. Barrel locked by a "T" bolt with a "V" rear sight and under the lower face of the bolt the number N° 109. 6-shot fluted barrel of the 1 7/16° model, or 3.6 cm with automatic collective star extractor activated when the barrel is tilted downwards. Once the walnut plates are removed, the visible metal frame mount bears on one side the numbers 23 & 109 and on the other side, a + or X with the letter "A" and the number 4 (see photos). The number 23 is also on the trigger under the trigger guard. SPECIAL FEATURES: The back of the stock and the cap have a system of fixing holes for a removable stock, fixed by a lug. This revolver may be one of the copies without patent markings on the barrel or also part of a special series of 250 copies for the Australian Colonial Police which had these fixing holes for a stock.
