"Two Charming Little Gouaches, Views Of Rouen. Jaa Pastelot. 19th Century."
Two superb small gouaches, fine, delicate and luminous, representing what I believe to be views of Rouen. They are by Jean Amable Amédée Pastelot. He was born in 1820 in Moulins. Died in 1870 in Paris. 19th century, French. Painter. He worked with Jules Dupré. Appeared at the Paris Salon from 1846 to 1870. We owe to this artist the decorative paintings of room 6 at the Hôtel Carnavalet. He first made costumes and decorations, painting flowers in the style of Diaz. He then executed in gouache and watercolor, small scenes of manners. Caricaturist, he collaborated with the Illustration, the Charivari, the Journal Amusement and the Boulevard. The museum of Perpignan has a watercolor of his as well as the one in Nice. These two small gouaches are in very good condition, one of them is signed lower left. Presented under glass measuring 16 cm x 13.5 cm. The gouaches alone measure 11.5 cm x 8.5 cm.
