"Painting By Albert André - Door Trumeau - Circa 1925 - Fashion"
Door trumeau by Albert André (1869-1954) on the theme of fashion depicting various dressmaker's accessories, fabric and a Vogue magazine on a drapery background. This canvas was part of a series of six on the themes of arts and leisure, executed in the 1920s to decorate the living room of the Château de Coulorgues in Bagnols sur Cèze in the Gard near Laudun where our painter had a family property. Our canvas was acquired from the heirs of the person who commissioned the canvases when the château was sold in 2000. They were then transposed onto a frame. They are mentioned in Evelyne Yeatman's book on Albert André published in 1990. Four of them were also part of the Albert André exhibition at the Vouland Museum in Avignon in 2004 and are in the exhibition catalogue. Albert André, a great friend of Renoir, is a post-impressionist painter close to the Nabis. He is best known for his intimate interior scenes and landscapes of the South of France. He also produced many decorative works for beautiful homes and official buildings. Renoir often stopped at his home in Laudun when he visited his estate in Cagnes-sur-Mer and the portraits that Albert André made of him are considered to be the best of the aging painter. Many of Albert André's works are in museums around the world, including in the United States where he was very successful. Oil on canvas, relined and framed in a modern Louis XVI style frame. Very good condition. Signed lower left. Dimensions: 158 x 62 cm. View: 150 x 54 cm
