With that of Sèvres, Limoges is one of the two main porcelain productions in France, and the only one coming from a real production territory, organized around the town of Limoges (Haute-Vienne), represented by several companies still in activity including some are centuries old.
In 1827, the city had sixteen factories. The years of the Restoration were also marked by the founding of factories in the Limousin countryside (Coussac-Bonneval, Magnac-Bourg, Solignac, Saint-Brice, Saint-Léonard, Bourganeuf, etc.)7
At that time, the porcelain industry fed a large part of the Limougeau population. The porcelain manufacturing cycle involves many different professions. During the 1830s, eight new ones were created in Limoges.
From the middle of the century, following the impetus given by the American Haviland, there were more than thirty. It is the latter which seduces Paris with the quality and finesse of Limousin production, will encourage the porcelain decoration sector on the Limougeaud site, in accordance with the tastes of American customers. In 1848, there were nineteen factories and seventeen decoration workshops in Limoges. The year 1853 was marked by the creation of its factory bringing together manufacturing workshops and decoration workshops, employing 400 workers.
The Second Empire was the first period of strong growth in Limoges porcelain, supported by the activity of the regional bank Tarneaud. The milestone of ten thousand workers was reached in 1918.
