The 3rd Republic covers the years from 1871 to 1951.
Star with five double rays with buttoned points, enameled in white, framed by a branch of oak leaves and laurels enameled in light green.
The gold obverse represents in the center the effigy of the Republic in the form of Ceres face, turned in profile to the right, bordered by a blue enamel rim with the inscription in gold letters "République française" and the date 1870 framed by two stars.
The gold reverse shows two crossed flags surrounded by a blue rim bearing the inscription "Honneur et Patrie" and a laurel leaf.
The star is suspended from a crown of silver leaves enamelled with green. A small ball connects the suspension at the silver pendant ring that holds the ribbon. This badge is attached to a red ribbon with a silk scarlet rosette (as an officer).
