Rented. - Important French portrait from the end of the 17th century reproduced in the catalogue raisonné of the works of the great portraitist Hyacinthe Rigaud, chamber painter to Louis XIV of France and Philip V of Spain, known and famous for his effigies of the Sun King. , which represents the ecclesiastic Jean-Paul Bignon at the age of 32 as abbot of the monastery of Saint Quentin, linked to the Maurist order, and important royal foundation near Paris. Stéphane Perreau includes this painting in the provisional catalogue raisonné of Hyacinthe Rigaud because it is the only current reproduction of the engraving by Charles Simmoneau which reproduces, in turn, the original painting by Rigaud, which could well be this work offered by the Montbaron gallery.
