"Pair Of Trompe l'Oeil Plates In Fine Earthenware From The 19th Century."
On a vine leaf background, tomatoes, nuts and strawberries garnish two small plates... Intended for decoration, these two pieces designed in the 19th century, take up the idea inaugurated a century earlier by the large workshops which competed in the exact copy of reality; this time, only the staging and the plausibility of the volumes are successful, in opposition to the reality of the colors, more fanciful; that being said, the result is appreciable because more astonishing than just and as the two subjects complement each other, the decorative effect is achieved. No reference mark (!) authorizes a proven provenance even if the vine leaf of the backgrounds was treated in Montereau; these may be tests that had no follow-up. Good general condition of the two pieces.
