Another particularity, this sabre is marked "GENERALITE DE BRETAGNE" The generalities of Brittany, North and South were created by Louis XIV in 1689. The southern generality existed until 1774 and the northern generality until 1790. The intendance of Brittany, which brought together the 2 generalities, sat in Rennes.
So since the model of the sabre is 1787, we can deduce that this is the Northern generality (Rennes, Brest, Morlaix, Guingamp, Saint Malo and Dinan).
BLADE: It is a straight blade with two fullers, which start 5 cm from the guard. There is no manufacturer's marking, it is most likely a Solingen manufacture. On the external face, we find engraved "GENERALITE DE BRETAGNE". The back of the blade ends with a counter-edge on the last 14 cm.
The blade is partly oxidized and could certainly be improved by polishing. There is a very small lack at the level of the edge, 3 cm from the tip, which is very little noticeable, and which we will kindly excuse, if we consider the rarity of this model. Blade length = 88 cm, width at the ricasso 3.5 cm, thickness at the ricasso 9mm
GUARD: This is the brass guard with shell and branches called "battle guard" It is the regulation of the model.
CAP it is in brass, with a short tail, topped with a button on which the tang of the blade is riveted.
SCABBARD: this is the thick leather scabbard with 3 brass fittings, and iron dart of the model, absolutely conforming to the model of the Christian Ariès collection.
It is therefore an interesting saber by its rarity, which I chose to leave in the state of discovery, but which can if one wishes take on a more brilliant appearance.
