"Mavaleix Limoges Porcelain Vase With Musketeer Decor, Hand Painted Military Figure"
Very beautiful Limoges porcelain vase decorated with a military figure, probably a seated musketeer quenching his thirst. On the back of the vase, a cartouche decorated with a fortified castle. Gold highlights at the neck. This vase bears the signature "De Rilhac" in the decoration. Under the bottom, two stamps are present, the first for the Mavaleix factory (period 1908-1914), the second in green also for export, Georges Borgfeldt in New York, had his porcelain decorated in Limoges under the company name Coronet. In 1908, after the dissolution of the company he had formed with the Balleroy and Mondavy brothers, he continued alone at 1 rue Charpentier. The few known pieces of his production are extremely neat and it was at full production that in 1914 he had to close his factory to go to war. At the end of hostilities, on March 16, 1920, he joined forces with Jean Granger, but a few months later, he died from injuries received in the war.
