Object description :

"Charles II Vandeneycken, 1859-1923. "
This charming painting, depicting a child training a small dog, is the work of an artist from the Belgian school of the second half of the 19th century. He was a pupil of his father Charles and then, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, of Joseph Stevens, an animal painter, he later studied at the Louvain Academy. He was a member of "L'Essor", a group of young artists who rebelled against academic conservatism. An animal painter, he put his subjects in playful situations, often humorous. From 1881, he exhibited at the Salons of Brussels, Liège, Ghent, Antwerp but also in the Netherlands, Germany and Spain as well as in Paris, at the Salon des Artistes Français where he received an honorable mention in 1895. The Museums of Antwerp, Brussels, Ixelles and Courtrai hold his works. He painted several paintings for Queen Marie-Henriette of Belgium. Oil on canvas signed lower left, dimensions 47 x 37 cm and 64 x 54 cm for the frame. Old restorations.
