"Cecilio Pla (1860-1934) - Rome: The Visit To The Colosseum"
THIS SEPTEMBER, ENJOY FREE DELIVERY IN THE EUROPEAN UNION* AT MONTBARON GALLERY - Oil on canvas. Original fabric. - A curious painting not exempt from a certain archaeological flavor that constitutes one of the first testimonies of cultural tourism in Europe. Made during Pla's first campaign in Rome, between 1880 and 1884, on the occasion of the usual study trip between young artists, the work reproduces with a plenary flavor and notes of impressionism so in vogue at the time a scene very far from the pompous historical compositions that were to be painted by the students of the Spanish Academy of the Janiculum. This work, intimate, personal and very experimental on a compositional level, results from one of those moments when the artist, still in his formative years, gives an early idea of the keys to his later genius. - Unframed image dimensions: 26 x 48 cm / 42 x 64 cm with exceptional original gilt frame. - From a private collection of paintings in Barcelona. - Good general condition. Minimal defects. - Galerie Montbaron encloses a technical sheet established by a qualified art historian with all its lots. This sheet is sent in digital format and on request.
