Lucien Alphonse Gros (1845-1913) Breton Sonneurs oil on mahogany panel signed lower left, dated 1899. 41x31.5cm (58c49.5cm framed) very good condition Lucien Alphonse Gros, born May 19, 1845 in Wesserling in the Haut-Rhin and died April 27, 1913 in Poissy, is a French painter, student of Ernest Meissonier. He begins by representing historical scenes, then around 1880 he will be inspired by Breton landscapes and turn towards realism by painting the daily life of sea workers. Exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1865 to 1882. Public collections Strasbourg; museum of modern and contemporary art.
