François Auguste Ravier was born in 1814 in Lyon, died in 1895 in Morestel.
He studied at the Beaux Arts in Paris in the studios of Théodore Caruelle and Jules Coignet.
He stayed in Auvergne where he met Corot, whose influence he was influenced by.
Several of his paintings have been exhibited at the Reims Museum.
In 1996, in conjunction with the Corot exhibition in Paris, the Lyon Museum exhibited one hundred and forty works by Ravier.
