"Directoire Chandelier In 'painted Sheet Metal', Late 18th Century."
Rare column-shaped candlestick, from the Directoire period, in green lacquered sheet metal. The bottom receives, on two sides, a gilded decoration of garlands and crowns of ribboned flowers. The 'shaft' in the shape of a 'sheath' presents, top and bottom, a motif of gilded palmettes and 'rings'. It is topped with a gilded bronze bobèche, placed on a small sheet metal 'tray' with gilded edges. The whole rests on a base, also cylindrical, decorated with a frieze of palmettes and supported by three 'lion's paws' in gilded bronze. Light fixture in good condition. (restored bobèche)
