Rare painting by Jules Joseph Cayla Oil on canvas depicting a boat on the seaside signed lower right Painting in poor condition see photos dimensions 24 X 41 cm Label and annotations on the back frame as is (35 X 5.5 cm) CAYLA Jules, Joseph, painter born in Lunas (Hérault) student of ME MICHEL. We also learn that he exhibited in Paris at the Salons of 1878: View of the pond of Laïrolles (Hérault), and of 1880: The banks of the Bièvre at the Glacière. Ernest MICHEL (1833 - 1902) born in Montpellier, student of Charles MATET then of the school of fine arts of Paris, obtained in 1860 a second prize of Rome and 10 years later a first prize of Rome. In 1871 he returned to his hometown. He became curator of the Fabre museum.
