"George III Silver Mounted Cut-glass Oil / Vinegar Jug / Liquer Decanter With Griffin Armorial"
Elegant George III faceted cut-glass cruet jug for oil or vinegar / liquer decanter with sterling silver mounts. Panelled 12-sided vase-shaped body resting on a spreading flowerhead foot. Double scroll handle with a shell thumbpiece and bright-cut feathered borders.

Engraved armorial family crest to the lid shows that this jug was commissioned by an aristocratic family. The crest depicts a griffin.

Marked for William Skeen, London, no date letter - the mark was entered in 1755 and used up to 1783.

Made by William Skeen and assayed for London, c. 1775

Very good antique condition. Small fleabites to glass; small chip to body; larger chip underneath the handle; small dark mark to lid; tiny dings to silver mounts; chips to underneath the base and small chips along the edge of the base.
