Oil on canvas measuring 38cm x 61cm plus frame 53cm x 76cm signed lower right Hélène MARTIN, countersigned on the back with her address in Marseille Hélène MARTIN born in 1912 joined the Péano group in Marseille in 1945, she participated in the workshops of the National Union of Plastic Arts with SEYSSAUD and Max PAPART. Around 1950, she painted landscapes of Marseille and the Var with angular shapes and contrasting colors always rich in material, influenced by CHABAUD and AMBROGIANI. A complete artist, she explored different techniques from the 1960s, ceramics, sculpture and assemblages. She then gradually moved towards a so-called "Singular" art. A friend of César, she participated in numerous exhibitions. A documentary on Arte was dedicated to her in 2008 A tribute was paid to her in 2023 at the Docks d'Arles
