"Breastfeeding Woman - Nursing Virgin Of Toffoli - 20th Century"
Some will see a breastfeeding woman, but I like to think that the artist wanted to represent, in a more modern form naturally, a Virgin called "of milk". The blue hues that the painter was fond of are indeed very Marian. This is an oil on canvas by Louis TOFFOLI (1907-1999), a painting signed and titled on the back with the studio number 3839, in a gilded wooden frame.The work appears in the painter's catalogue raisonné in volume 2 under the reference 2222.
