Circa 1830-1840 England A fine square double-pointed shawl with reserve in raspberry fuschia silk twill, a specialty of the Norwich factory and dating from the very beginning of the Victorian era. The borders are sewn reversed on the diagonal allowing the two points to be folded over on the right side. The borders are woven with a throw-cut loom with palm and architectural and "bizarre" motifs. Very tightly woven shawl in seven colors, white, vermilion, navy, sky blue, green, yellow and caramel. Sewn fringes in silk frayed to match the central reserve on all four sides. Note a period repair on one border, but no holes, moth holes or stains. Exceptional condition of color and preservation.
