"Meeting Of 2 Andiron Heads With Arabesque Children, Louis XVI Style"
Dating from the 19th century, these two andirons in gilded bronze and finely worked brown patina bronze are based on the model made in 1785 by Jean-Noel Turpin based on the design of the ornamentalist Jean-François Forty, a copy of which is part of the collections of Count Moïse de Camondo. Another model also made by Turpin and gilded by Claude Galle was placed in the Grand Cabinet of the Queen's Salon des Nobles at Versailles. This most pleasant model enjoyed great success, called "à enfants arabesques" (with arabesque children), they present children with brown patina springing from an acanthus scroll, the children with plump bodies stretch out their hands as if to warm themselves near a brazier placed at the other end, the whole resting on a molded plinth, sculpted with channels, finished with small feet. Model very close to each other with small variations, if these two andirons date from the 19th century one of the two seems older, good condition of the whole Dimensions: Height: 30 cm Width: 35 cm Depth: 11 cm
