"Black Stone Carved Maternity Statuette. China Qing Period."
The mother lying on a cushion plays with her child, her legs crossed and her mutilated foot, her "lotus bud" ostentatiously stretched out. The attitude is provocative and cheerful. The 2 characters are positioned on a large square base, thick and heavy in black hard stone veined with brown. The use of this object escapes us, perhaps it is one of the 4 weights for large carpets, as was customary in India. The object was lacquered as indicated by traces of residual reddish-brown lacquer.
