Superb early 20th century bronze representing a seated goat and made by Jean-Marie MAGROU (1869-1945) Born into a family of artists, Jean Magrou studied in Bézier where he distinguished himself in the study of Greek and Latin, and was passionate about mythology and wanting to become a sculptor, he enrolled at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris where he was admitted to the workshops of Gabriel Thomas (1824-1905) and Jean Antoine Injalbert (1845-1933). He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1893 and obtained a 3rd class medal in 1895. He obtained a second Prix de Rome in 1897. Professor of drawing and modeling at the Sorbonne in Paris, he participated in 1907 in the teaching cooperative created by Marie Curie. This sculpture of superb quality and in excellent condition has a superb patina, the chiseling is fine and precise. Signed on the terrace MAGROU and bearing the name of the founder Siot in Paris.
