The forge is old, that is certain. I would risk the 17th century, which seems probable to me, with a margin of uncertainty...
It was collected in Auvergne, a region that had little international trade in the 17th and 18th centuries, so it is probably indigenous.
The part that constitutes the blade is drawn in the forge from the socket. It has small marks of combat at the level of the edges. Length of the cutting part = 45.8 cm, Width near the socket 4.8 cm, thickness near the socket = 10.4 mm
The socket is forged in one piece with the blade near its base, it is pierced with two holes facing each other, which were certainly intended to allow the riveting through the socket on the shaft. External diameter of the socket = 3.7 cm, internal diameter = 2.9 cm
The object is in its discovery patina, which I preferred to keep.
