Wonderful antique Persian Bidjar rug from the second half of the 19th century.
Hand-knotted in wool from the Iranian highlands, it measures 134 cm wide by 196 cm long.
In very good condition, for a rug of this quality and age, it has retained a beautiful suppleness of wool, but remains very heavy due to its density of knots and its thickness.
The shaving of these wool rugs is so precise and clean that the material is similar to silk, giving the wool a beautiful shine.
Not far from Sanandaj, the region of finely knotted Senneh rugs, is the small town of Bijar which, with its surrounding villages, produces what are undoubtedly the heaviest and most resistant rugs in Persia.

Our model has a classic decor related to the Malayer, the Bidjar and some Sarough, old gold and blue color (three shades), cream and pistachio, as well as the bronze color which underlines the contours.
The field has a so-called "herati" pattern, discreet but greatly elaborated by its finesse of execution.
The fine border is adorned with foliage and palmettes finely knotted old gold and cream on a background of a delicate and rare blue.
The short and clean fringes are old gold color.
A very resistant, quality carpet, which with its colors can be placed anywhere in a house.
