Located southeast of Tehran, the small town of Veramine made rugs that most often featured the timeless 'mina khani' (daisy pattern), an interpretation of the 'hérati' or 'mahi' pattern, like the one below.
Elegant Veramine rug on a pink background, in zaronim format in kurk wool (fine wool taken in spring from the necks of lambs).
The pattern is made up of flowers and foliage with a few birds. The colors, weathered by time, are soft and nuanced. Two small "hérati"* borders on a beige background frame another "herati" border on a navy blue background and highlight the entire rug. This is a real veramine and not a veramine made in Khorasan (north-east of Iran).
*Herati border (or samovari): this pattern is composed of small flowers represented on the borders that surround the carpet. It is found on the majority of Iranian carpets.
